I ask because when I select the source "SQL Server" it connects successfully and the source "Analyze Service" does not.

Troubleshoot connection issues
Thanks for this. It helped me a ton! One thing I don't understand is how allowing access to sqlbrowser.exe opens up the dynamic tcp port that the named instance sits on. The named instance will be on a dynamic port, right? So even though we allow access to sqlbrowser.exe and therefore know what port we're trying to get to, we still can't get that port, right? Or when you say "allow an application through the firewall" are you talking about allowing the gateway application through the firewall?

I am having trouble in connecting Power Bi to a data source on SharePoint, just an Excel file. I filled up all the credentials which work fine for connecting to my Outlook account, no problem there with email address or password, but when is about connecting Power Bi to our company SharePoint space, I get the following error:
"We couldn't authenticate with the credentials provided."

I am now trying to activate The Things Gateway (Model: TTN-001-915-1.0) but having a trouble.
I went through step 1, 2, and 3 but got stuck at step 4 on the activation site (https://activate.thethingsnetwork.org/ 3).
I can see the gateway LED1 On, LED2 Slow blink: “Connecting to the internet” over 10 minutes and no further progress. I tried multiple times but there was no difference.
Can anybody please give me the idea how to fix this issue?

"The on-premises data gateway's service account failed to impersonate the user." … Strange part is, I get this error on a dataset that's published on My Workspace. Hi Adam – troubleshooting a Gateway issue that MS support can't help.
On Power BI Service Gateway Connection page for the dataset, it askes me to add the data source to the gateway. And after I successfully added the data source in the gateway, the message stays the same, as though adding to the gateway didn't take effect.
The connector is for Postgres (OLEDB connector). It works perfectly fine with Power BI Desktop and had been working with another Gateway too until I needed to switch to a new gateway server
Any insight appreciated.

My Gateway (to a SSAS tabular instance) connects ok (tells me it is successful) but my report source says it can't connect when I try and open the report. I am using a domain service acct which i have added to the Admin role in SSAS.When I type in my own user acct there is no issue the report can connect so it is definitely an account issue but how do I find out what ? . Also the tabular model is connecting to the underlying data source via a SQL acct so I know it isn't a downstream authentication issue. I also have no problem connecting via PBI desktop . Its only in the pBI service. Lastly I have made sure the server name and SSAS database name are identical in the report and the gateway. Any thoughts? Cheers Ronan

i have checked the same app in the local machine and it was working fine.
Upgraded gateway, verified all the connection strings on manage gateway.
Gateway was up and running fine. Not sure where was the issue.

I'm seeing the following error message: 'OLE DB or ODBC error: [DataSource.Error] SharePoint: Request failed: The remote server returned an error: (406) Not acceptable. (The HTTP header ACCEPT is missing or its value is invalid.). OLE DB or ODBC error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E4E. OLE DB or ODBC error: Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040E4E. ' In this instance, I'm connecting to an on-prem SharePoint site of which I have permissions, but the query tables will not load and I get the error message above. Any ideas?

Adam, thanks for sharing all this information, it's been hugely helpful over the last 12 months. One issue that continues to catch people, including me, is that when you use Get Data in Power BI desktop or Excel it brings in the data using the mapped network drive as a reference. e.g. W: however Gateway refresh does not like this, so you then need so set up your Gateway data source as \SERVERNAMEetc…FolderFilenename. Then you have to copy this back into your PBI Desktop file and replace the original W: reference and re-publish to PowerBI.com Am I missing something or is this just how it is…?

I have watched almost all of the videos about gateway, however I am unable to connect tabular AS instance thru on-prem enterprise gateway. I am able to connect SQL server without any problem but not AS. Firewall ports open, gateway service account is admin on AS instance, PowerBI Gateway management says I am connected and connection is successful, but when I try to create report thru GET DATA, it shows my tabular instance, but when I click on it, it just says "Something went Wrong". That's the only message. No clue in logs, nothing. What can be the reason for this? I am running an Windows 10 machine joined to Azure AD ONLY config. No on prem DC, only cloud AD. Should I do something done with AzureAd service or similar ?

MS Support can't help me, so maybe you can 😉 Gateway connection is succesfull, same for the datasource. But nothing is shown up, when I go to settings-datasets-gateway connection. Its just blank.
